BRIDGEWATER, NS, Jan. 27, 2012 /CNW/ - Bell Aliant (TSX: BA) is bringing its fibre-to-the home (FTTH) network to Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, investing $2.1 million to expand its FibreOP™ services to 4,300 homes and businesses in the area.

"The capabilities are endless with FibreOP," said Andre LeBlanc, VP Residential Product, Bell Aliant. "FibreOP is the only 100 per cent fibre optic network that connects straight customers' homes so everything works faster, easier and better. FibreOP delivers the fastest Internet, video sharing and the ultimate high-definition TV experience."

FibreOP Internet offers choices in speeds, including the fastest Internet available in Nova Scotia, with 170 Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload service. These speeds enable customers to not only download music or movies and share video or photos faster than ever before, but also accommodate the growing need for multiple users in the home.

FibreOP TV is the ultimate TV experience allowing customers to watch, record and pause live TV from any room with our best Whole Home PVR. The new TV product also includes superior Whole Home HD, the Ultimate Video-on-Demand - with the most HD movies and the most popular TV shows in HD - and the Next Generation Interactive Guide, with easy-to-use features like picture-in-picture browsing and advanced search capability.

FibreOP for business delivers faster Internet to business customers, over a 100 per cent fibre optic network straight to their business, providing superior speed and greater reliability.

By the end of 2012, Bell Aliant will have invested approximately half a billion dollars to extend FTTH to more than 600,000 homes and businesses throughout its territory. FibreOP expansion is continuing in the Halifax Regional Municipality, and builds are complete in New Glasgow, Wolfville, Windsor, Kentville, Truro, and Sydney, Sydney River, North Sydney, Sydney Mines, Glace Bay and New Waterford. The product is also available in parts of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador.

"We continue to roll-out FibreOP in the locations that make good business sense for us," said Mr. LeBlanc. "Bridgewater is one of those locations."
