Stephen Howe to lead Bell's wireless and wireline network teams as Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer
J. Trevor Anderson retiring after a distinguished 39-year career with Bell as a key builder of Canada's modern telecommunications infrastructure
MONTREAL, Dec. 8 2010 -- Bell today announced that Stephen Howe will lead the company's wireline and wireless network teams as Bell's new Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, effective January 1, 2011. Bell also announced today the retirement of J. Trevor Anderson, Executive Vice President, Network, on December 31, 2010 after a distinguished 39-year career with the company.
Mr. Howe is being promoted from his current position as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Bell Mobility, where his responsibilities have included leading the rollout of Bell's world-leading HSPA+ wireless network. Driving strong growth at Bell Mobility, this next generation network now offers the fastest mobile data speed commercially available from any carrier in North America.
"Stephen Howe is uniquely qualified to accelerate Bell's communications network leadership position at a global level. With his extensive experience in building large-scale and high-quality digital networks, Stephen knows how to leverage the power of broadband to deliver the communications services that matter to customers," said George Cope, President and CEO of Bell and BCE. "He's a network leader ready to accelerate the execution of Bell's strategic imperatives and enhance the Bell customer experience at every level."
The Bell team is executing 5 Strategic Imperatives - Improve Customer Service, Invest in Broadband Networks and Services, Accelerate Wireless, Leverage Wireline Momentum, and Achieve a Competitive Cost Structure - in order to accomplish a clear goal: For Bell to be recognized by customers as Canada's leading communications company.
Under Mr. Howe's leadership, Bell's wireless and wireline network teams will build and enhance the high-capacity broadband networks delivering advanced communication services to Bell's consumer and business customers now and into the future. With approximately $3 billion in capital expenditures in both 2009 and 2010, Bell is investing far more in new Canadian network infrastructure - in major cities, small towns, rural and remote locations across the country - than any other company.
A renowned innovator at mobile providers in Canada and internationally, Mr. Howe was born and raised in Trenton, Ontario. He received his Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Physics from McMaster University in Hamilton, ON and a Masters of Business Administration from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
