KILLAM AND BELL ALIANT ANNOUNCE FIRST FIBREOP™ ENABLED MULTI-RESIDENTIAL BUILDING IN ATLANTIC CANADA
HALIFAX, Sept. 2 2010 -- Killam Properties Inc. (TSX:KMP) and Bell Aliant (TSX:BA.UN) announced today another first in fibre-optic technology. Forest Hill Towers ("Forest Hills"), the newly renovated, 151-unit high rise building in Fredericton, New Brunswick, will become the first FibreOP™ enabled multi-residential building in Atlantic Canada. Killam partnered with Bell Aliant to retrofit the building with FibreOP enabling their tenants to take advantage of the ultimate television and Internet experience.
A kitchen fire at Forest Hills on September 9, 2009 resulted in extensive smoke and water damage to the nine-storey building. Following nine months of renovations, Forest Hills reopened in July 2010 to both new and existing tenants. Tenants will enjoy many upgrades at the building, including a theatre room, roof-top patio, entertainment suite and upgraded gym and indoor pool. In addition, tenants will have the opportunity to benefit from a 100% fibre-optic network straight to their suite.
Bell Aliant's FibreOP technology offers the highest bandwidth available for both sending and receiving data. FibreOP Internet offers choices in speed, including exceptionally fast 70 Mbps download and 15 Mbps upload Internet service. These speeds enable tenants to download music or movies, and share video or photos faster than ever before. FibreOP TV offers a 100% digital TV service including High Definition television, available on all TVs, and watch and record PVR. Tenants can enjoy unmatched digital picture and sound quality on over 300 channels, including over 98 music channels and 60 HD channels.
